Random Thoughts

Posted on Tuesday 21 July 2009

I know I’ve been AWOL for a while but work has been hectic, not to mention the two classes I’m taking this summer.  On the bright side, I’ve been pretty good about planning dinners in advance so I don’t buy take out.  We’ve only been out to dinner one or two times this month and one of those was hubby’s birthday dinner.

I have an international trip coming up soon as well as planning a domestic trip for early next year.  This means I’ve been spending a little more than usual.  We’ve bought two new pieces of luggage, booked airline tickets, and pre-paid lodging.  I’m also going to get a netbook this week in order to minimize the amount of stuff that I’m dragging across the globe with me.

I’ve been slacking on the finances though.  I like to re-evaluate our asset allocation twice a year.  Mid-year (the end of June) has come and gone without me doing that.  I also need to re-evaluate our budget if I’m going to come anywhere closing to maxing out the IRAs for this year.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though.  Things will calm down within two months and I can get back on track.  How are you guys doing with your finances?

I’m Back

Posted on Monday 6 July 2009

I’m back from a much needed vacation. A week of rest and relaxation was great. I don’t even want to talk about how much money we spent. It’s water under the bridge now.

This is the first week of school for me.  I’m taking two classes this summer – one in person (ugh) and one online.  I’m already behind in the online class due to procrastination and vacation.  I originally wanted to take class on Saturday but that section was cancelled due to low interest.  Now I will have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  That means I need to be sure to plan ahead for dinner so that I don’t get into the habit of picking up take-out on the way home.  Also, even though it’s summer, I may need to pull out my crockpot again.

Coming up soon, I will review a copy of the book that I featured in my giveaway last week so stay tuned!
